Loved their service, and our food was delicious. Both sides of the restaurant were family-friendly, including the bar side, which helped us get situated faster.

El Tepeyac Café in Boyle Heights is a culinary gem that never disappoints. Known for its hearty portions and authentic flavors, this family-owned institution has been a staple in the community for decades. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Hollenbeck Burrito. It's massive--easily enough to feed two people--and packed with tender, flavorful carnitas, rice, beans, and their signature zesty sauce. Each bite feels like a warm hug from abuelita. The taquitos and chile verde are also must-tries, offering that homemade taste that's hard to find elsewhere. The service is warm and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. The staff genuinely care about your experience and go the extra mile to ensure your meal is perfect. El Tepeyac's nostalgic charm is enhanced by its classic diner-style setting, complete with old photos of the restaurant's history adorning the walls. Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak hours, but the food is worth the effort. If you're craving authentic Mexican comfort food and a true Boyle Heights experience, El Tepeyac Café is the place to go. Just make sure to come hungry!

El Tepeyac Cafe is a staple in the neighborhood in East LA. A homey restaurant that has a long history. My father cant help himself in retelling stories of him and his friends eating at El Tepeyac when they were teenagers. The menu hasnt changed much over the years. Expect the traditional fair, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, beans, rice and more. I had gone to the restaurant that day to partake of their delicious menudo. Sadly for me I was there on the wrong day as they only have menudo on the weekends and one day during the week (I think Tuesday). So I decided to forgo breakfast and got the enchilada and carnitas taco. My friend got the Machaca and eggs. When you come to Tepeyac be prepared to eat. The portions are generous and we both had a second meal to take with us. Thank you Tepeyac!

There is not a bad choice on the menu! Get the breakfast burrito but ask for chorizo mixed with the eggs, extra bacon and sausage light on the taters... so freak'n good! Chile Verde with rice and beans is the bomb, and their Menudo is a lot like "Abuelita's"! Just go and try it already, you can't go wrong!! Patricio

Stopped in for dinner tonight after Dodgers World Series celebration. many Dodger fans came here after their celebration for a meal before they head home. Greeted by friendly server who took my order Knowledgeable on menu? Business has a great history of serving Boyle Heigts and the local community for over 55 years. If you have not tried this place I would like for you to add it to your list. You will enjoy all the Mexican selections that they have their burritos are famous as well I ordered the Hollenbeck burrito and a bowl of Albondigas. We enjoyed very much one of the good things to order for sure. Business has a big seating area inside as well as a nice decorated patio outside and if you do not want to eat here, you can order to go as well from out front very convenient .

I've been back again only this time I brought a friend who had not visited in 34 years (him). You should have seen how quickly he wolfed down his dish! Otherwise, I'm pleased to see there was a bit of a line waiting to get in at the lunch hour. It's always a good sign when a place is busy. Aside from covid times... Manuals has always, almost always had a line to get in? Covid wasn't kind to almost any business... Especially restaurants. I guess you'd have to convert your restaurant to heavy delivery only since during covid nobody was coming out in person. Anyways, my Hollanbec (misspelled?) was totally a tornado on my taste buds... Yummy beyond compare. It was a time traveling blast into the past! Yeah I've been coming here for over 40 years... That's how long I've been with my wife... Actually let me think about it... I think I could come in here for almost 50 years? Does that make me some kind of antique at oh Tepeyac? Anyways, is there any other way to justify five stars other than having faithfully been a frequent visitor spanning half a century? Dang... What I'm really trying to say is I would like to award award 50 stars... One for every year!

Note: I have been to this location before and believe it or not, my family has only ever ordered burritos. I recall coming here when Manuel would walk up and down the line to the entrance and offer shots to patrons! I have family who grew up in East LA and adore this location, and the Tepeyac that used to be across from Resurrection Cemetery in Monterey Park (now closed). For a Sunday morning just after 9:00AM the interior was already packed with customers, which is a great sign. We were able to secure some outdoor seating with no wait. The Manuel's special is a 5-pound burrito that serves up to 4 people. It is traditionally made with rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, salsa, and pork. You can substitute different meats if you want. It costs $40 and for $10 per person the portions are a value. Service was quick, less than 10 minutes to receive our main course. The appetizer chips were crispy and fluffy and appear to be made in-house. The Manuel's special burrito tastes as good as I remember. This wet burrito is big-time comfort food. I think that I should come back and give the rest of their menu a shot! My official rating is 3.5 stars - for the sheer size and for the taste, it is better than average, for sure.

Was craving a wet burrito and found out about El Tepeyac the same day, so I had to try it. What a gem! I got the mini Okie burrito, filled with chile verde and topped with red enchilada sauce. As soon as I smelled it, I knew it was going to be divine. This mini burrito was stuffed! Could easily be 2-3 meals. I really liked their freshly fried chips with salsa too. The beef taquitos were full of meat, but dry. I did appreciate the generous amount of fresh guacamole they came with, but I'd pass on these next time. Huge portions at reasonable prices. Expect to wait ~20 minutes on a weekend at the takeout window. I'll be back!
